Mabel Normand (November 9, 1892 -- February 23, 1930) was an American silent film comedienne and actress. She was a popular star of Mack Sennett's Keystone Studios and is noted as one of the film industry's first female screenwriters, producers and directors. Onscreen she co-starred in commercially successful films with Charlie Chaplin and Roscoe Arbuckle, occasionally writing and directing movies featuring Chaplin. At the height of her career in the late 1910s and early 1920s, Normand had her own movie studio and production company.

Greenfield Bowie's CD, Hill Country Ragtime, is available for sale via his website at http://www.greenfieldbowie.com

Pianist David Greenfield Bowie has been an Austin musician since 1977, playing a broad range of instrumental standards: from ragtime to classical, jazz to country, contemporary pop hits to golden oldies, as well as audience requests. You are invited to view DGBowie's channel and enjoy listening to him performing several of his original pieces. Greenfield Bowie is the composer and pianist. The composer's name is shortened to avoid confusion with the rock star David Bowie. I think that most of us can tell the difference.

  • WOW, THIS VIDEO IS SO SPOT ON WITH THE CORRECT ERA RAGTIME MUSIC! Mabel was quite the big star in her day. Gloria Swanson was another silent screen actress that got tied to the railroad tracks! A nice tribute! Thanks for your professional and always polished videos!~ among the very best. Biff

  • @2reeler Yes, Mabel was a huge star. I do not know much about Mabel because she did not live long enough, which must have been so sad. I can remember seeing Gloria Swanson on talk shows when I was much younger. I do plan to make a video about Gloria. I keep stalling because I have been indecisive about the music selection. I was thinking about Enya music or classical music. She was a very special actress.

  • Ellen, your video shows how much you have grown & evolved as a videographer

right before our very eyes!!! The manner in which you have coordinated the perfect

music with the photo animation is nothing less than awesome. Tight, fast paced

but giving us enough time to enjoy the marvelous visuals & your unique treat-

ment of them. Mable Normand had a kind of quiet charisma. She used her

expressive eyes to geat advantage plus her talents before & behind the

    camera. Nice vintage feel! TY!!

  • @80stimeagain Making these videos is how I learn about these silent stars too. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I plan to use some more of my friend's ragtime pieces in future videos.
