LG Electronics showcased a 15" OLED TV prototype at CES 2009. There were two models and one was just 0.85mm thick. That is VERY thin! Asked when and if the 15" OLED TV would be in production: sometime in 2009, maybe.

  • Man, I seriously can't *wait* for the chance to pay $15,000.00 for a 15 inch screen! :/

  • I really hope it won't be that expensive. Most likely it'll be around $1999, which is still TOO expensive. But with most new technologies pushing what is possible, the price is going to be high. Over time it will come down and will eventually (don't hold your breath) compete with high-end LCDs in terms of price. I think.

  • I'm worried about the brightness can't use LCD because they give me Nausea and eyestrain TN panels or something. I mean if they make it bright as outside your going to squnit and whince at it.

The transparent and flexible OLEDs look great not too bright.

  • TN panels tend to be really bright in the center and as you get to the sides the brightness falls off pretty quickly. PVA is a little better. I would recommend IPS panels because brightness is relatively a bit less and does not decrease as much as the others. Let me know how it works out.

  • OLED is ultra fast response time (less than 0.01ms). it's to seem much to CRT! :D

  • Yes, you are right! There are many advantages of OLED over LCD and one of them is response time: it is extremely fast! Other great features are power savings, very deep blacks (since they are off), environmentally friendly. Thanks for your comment!

  • Damn! It's practrically paper thin, but it produces an amazing picture.

  • @Hentaiholic OMG neither can i! OOOOOO its so exciting!

  • can anyone tell me why LG released this 15" OLED with a much uglier design than the prototype? the prototype has a really nice simplistic stand, and this cool ambilight-like band around the sides...

  • Wow, that makes my LCD monitor look fat :)

Too bad we'll have to wait a few years for OLEDs to come down to prices that us regular folk can afford

  • i saw this when i went to korea

    its unbelievably thin

tvs in korea are whey better then america

  • it is 1200 dollars now

  • @aznboi1398 yep the difference today is that technology is getting smaller and thinner while americans are getting fatter.

  • Resolution don't mean dick without good contrast, thats why all those cheap LCD HD tv's have aweful picture quality and why old CRT tv's still look better (apart from plasma) this is why OLED is such a big leap forward, awesome REAL contrast, not 'dynamic' figure, but true contrast. Makes all the difference in dark movie scenes.

  • I want one of these because of the real black color, I can't stand these LCD's fake black anymore, it is annoying!
