Houston TX rally to support Gaza (2009-01-02)

A short series of video clips showing:
1) large horizontal Palestinian flag, with chants
2) postcards being signed to send to US president-elect Barack Obama
3) exhortations to do Three Things - itemized in the clips
ending with many hands held high saying PEACE!

More than one person told me that there were more than a thousand people outside the Israeli consulate in Houston on Friday afternoon, January 2, 2009.

(And I must say, the people across the street with Stars of David on their signs extolled peace, too, for the most part. We all want peace. There were a few, a very few less friendly posters I saw on both sides of the street, but they appeared to me to be keeping a lower profile, or even turned face back. That seems hopeful, to me.)

There were at least three news-choppers in the air, one swooped low for what must have been a great action shot. There were several MSM *big* TV cameras in the crowd, channel 39 I saw for sure. And of course, John H an Rob B from Indymedia/KPFT were there -- I'm sure we'll hear from them, via houston.indymedia.org in short order!

There will be peace in Palestine when Palestinians desire peace. Right now they don't want it.

According to Amnesty International, under Hamas rule, newspapers have been closed down and journalists have been harassed.

Hamas is a propaganda machine. Hamas has military youth training facilities. Hamas is an Islamo-fascist state.

Bring back Fatah's (Palestine Liberation Movement) control to Gaza and remove Hamas from its oppressive rule.

The Israel Air Force on Saturday dropped leaflets into the Gaza Strip warning residents that it plans to escalate its two-week-old offensive.

The notices are meant as a "general warning."

The notice says Israel is about to begin a "new phase in the war on terror." It says it will "escalate" an operation that already has killed more than 800 Palestinians.
