White2Sugars "Dumb Things" - Run4TheKids 2009

Having broken my Fun Run seal late last year in the Eltham Fun Run (5km), I decided to take on the 14.1km run for the Royal Children's Hospital.

Without thinking too much about it I thought it would be cool to target raising $1000 for the appeal - the fundraising "sweetener" was that if I raised the $1000 I would carry my guitar for the duration of the run and sing a song on top of Bolte Bridge!

(Un)fortunately, enough people sponsored me so I had to follow through! As of 5th April I'd raised $1385.

Will Phillips put $140 down but insisted on choosing the song - his choice? Paul Kelly's "Dumb Things"! Quite appropriate I guess.... :)

3 weeks out from the big day I tore a muscle in my right calf, but some swift osteotherapy and heaps of anti-inflammatories and I was good to go.

I don't really expect you to enjoy this, more like indulge me, but I followed through on my self dare so I thought I'd better prove it with some footage!!

HUGE thanks to all those who sponsored me - the kids at the Royal children's Hospital will be very grateful.

Update - for the record I ran 1:27:20 and finished 9913th out of 18,613 runners in the 14.1km event. That includes my "song time" on the bridge.

thx Paddy - the top of the bridge was at the 8km mark so it must have been adrenalin keeping my voice going i think!

the event used a shoe tag for timing which didn't start your clock until you crossed the actual start line. a good thing since it took like 20mins to actually get to the start line with all the 30,000 people!

no - it doesn't deduct my singing time unfortunately!

but it's all about the experience i guess...

Well done mate, surprisingly good voice after running so far. So do you get to deduct the guitar time from your undoubtedly fantastic run time?
