I bought a new netbook, a Samsung NC10, on 1 March 2009. Six months later, in mid-July, the screen suddenly started going white while I was using the computer. At first I thought that it was a Windows problem, but I soon discovered that I could get the screen to work by moving it backwards or forwards. Possibly a faulty connection to the LCD? I have found similar complaints by others on the Internet.

  • I have the same problem with my one, however my brother has the exact same laptop and his works perfectly....any suggestions on how i can destroy his? :-)

  • @aidibadibongobu A quick and dirty solution is to squeeze the plastic frame of the monitor at the bottom of the monitor, between the monitor and the keyboard. Try squeezing at different points along this edge of the monitor and you will find that the white-screen disappears, to be replaced by a normal picture. If you have the option, though, I would recommend sending it back to the manufacturer ... for a longer term solution (probably a new cable between the monitor and the keyboard).

  • Sounds like the Blue Screen of Death to me. My advice would be to wipe your hard drive and restore from backup. If you don't have a backup then you'll have to reinstall Windows then all of your applications. Good luck.

  • i have the same problem but there is NOTHING On the screen just like its turned off. but i can here the computer.. please help me

  • @zainuintel If your netbook is still under guarantee, take it back to the shop you bought it from. That's what I did. They installed a new cable between the motherboard and the screen. As you can see from the comments here, this is a common problem.

  • How long would it take to fix this? I need my computer for college ;_;

  • @jomckellan Shouldn't be too much of a problem, Dixons got it back to me in one week.

  • I just realised that the brightness has an effect. The dimmer the screen, the less likely it is to turn white.

  • @bigfatrooster This is how I fixed my screen: Open the screen... CAREFULLY (take care of the screws and be careful because the plastic casing is a little flimsey). Behind the screen you will see a silver rectangle which has wires in it... you want to massage those wires. I think the screen goes white because the wires are not connected as well as they should be. Put the screen back together and voila. NO MORE WHITE!

    I take NO RESPONSIBILTY if you crack the casing. You've been warned.
