This is the final continuation of my quest to be rid of the devilish hum that has infected my rig. Please watch my other video's on my guitar hum for background information.

I have been experimenting with a ton of different things trying to pinpoint the hum coming from my hot rodded strat. I believe I have finally found it. The hum only occurs when I am receiving power from the wall. I asked my dad about the electrical wiring and he said it was very old and probably problematic. Then I got a little clip of the pocket pod playing into my headphones with NO NOISE! I was very happy. Just to finalize it I will soon get a video playing through my amp somewhere else with proper powering. Thanks for all the help!

EDIT: 12-8-09

I figured out the problem. It was coming from the electricity in my house. Any time I play through something plugged into the wall it hums, but when I play the pocket pod on batteries it doesn't hum. Thanks for the help though.

  • go ground your computer

  • try an electroharmonix hum debugger

  • Ground loop...nuff' said.

  • right 2 reasons for the hum 1- ur using single coils which are famous for hum hence the humbucker was invented, 2- the pickups havent been waxed, which helps to ground it, by touching metal parts u are grounding the signal through you, which can be very dangerous

  • Hey mate i understand you feelings. i too have this problem and when i saw you vid, i thought and thought and though and came to the conclusion that guitar amps should have 3 prongs!!!! i aint joking at all...thses guys at gibson, roland, orange, fender should do it asap!

  • wow, what a horrible, totally useless vid!

  • @thedonace213 , its liky you have a AM or RF leak in your room in question. you would need the appropriate detector to find the source. Grangier sells these. otherwise check the guitar and make sure its properly shielded, as most cheaper guitars and some decent ones lack proper shielding.

  • FYI, you can solve this issue by simply applying a proper ground to your outlet .. now if your using a 2 prong outlets you will need a adapter that you can ground out the 3rd prong of your power cable. you can buy them almost anywhere. if you have a 3 prong and you still have noise its likely that your outlets ground is not going outside to the ground pole. your shielding wont work without a proper ground. you could in theory use the 2-prong to 3 prong adapter and run a wire to the lawn outsid

  • I used a ground tester on all the outlets in my room (which is the only place I plug my gear into and all the outlets check out fine according to the ground tester. All my amps and guitars have this same buzz though. Could it be my lights? Computer? Turning off lights and computer doesnt make it go away though (when im not recording into computer of course).
