Indeed it is rather sad when the production director is so short on imagination that he has to resort to such cheap and banal tricks as to denigrate the whole subject and the character; it almost seems as the nobility of the music offends some modern producers who prefer to shrug off the delicacy of highly cultivated baroque and Handel in particular; his genius must be extremely frustrating to those who lack it, as the director of this production.
i dont know if i like the whole idea of a scheming intelligent empress being in a drunken state of rejoicing. or the fact that she didnt sing the a section of the aria como scritto.
