Although lately I'm kind of focusing on violin, sometimes I like to dust off the ol' bandoneón and play some tunes! This one is part of "The Four Seasons" by the late and great Astor Piazzolla: "Invierno Porteño" - winter in Buenos Aires.
The basis for this arrangement is the original quintet arrangement which I transcribed first (if you want to play Piazzolla I recommend never buying scores since they're crap - all the "Piazzolla-magic" is taken out of the commercial scores - just transcribe the music yourself. If you want the sheet music for this arrangement visit the link above!). I then adapted it for this line-up with strings.
Invierno Porteño is one of the hardest Piazzolla compositions to perform convincingly. The music goes in unpredictable directions and abruptly changes tempo and mood throughout the piece. To pull this off you need musicians with a deeper knowledge of Piazzolla than can be acquired through just reading scores or listening to a CD (although listening to the maestro himself definitely helps).
