Clipperton's Dirty Secret

This musical vignette is an homage to the life that is still clinging on ever so desperately at Clippeton Atoll. I say this because we are exploiting it's waters by illegal fishing and polluting it's shore with our trash.

During our expedition to Clipperton Atoll there was a tuna boat that we believe was fishing the waters of this protected Marine Sanctuary. During the course of approximately 20 dives we saw little more than a handful of sharks. The once fearful Clipperton Atoll had been finned to but a mere few reef sharks that were so afraid, they stayed off in the shadows.

This piece demonstrates just how much of our waste washes ashore on some of the most remote locations in the world. There was no shortage of Coca Cola bottles or for that matter Suntori Whisky was in abundance too. So to where little toy soldiers and lots of medical waste. But the really scary stuff is all the long lines that have washed ashore. Sometimes it is in bundles on the beach other times it just wraps the reef, ensnaring life as it digs in.


The Boobies and Frigates that live ashore are found on the beach with swollen bellies full of plastic. Death their only salvation to the starvation they face.

@CassiusYou fue descubierta por magallanes y él la bautizó como isla de la pasión. luego llegaron los güeones franceses y en un alarde de originalidad la llamaron îlle de la passion. Pero fue el señor Magallanes en una de sus vueltas quien la descubrió.
