Ham international CONCORDE 2 with no RX/TX, problem was PLL failure and also final output transistor.
Common symptom of PLL failure is transceiver only works on one frequency, another very common problem on these old CYBERNET radios can be VCO failure.
HFR-20W transistor now available direct from "weazle66" at EBAY.

  • Interesting,I play with broken radios all the time, and ressurecting old radios is a favourate pastime of mine, the shack is also very well stocked with test gear.

I was wondering what exactly was the problem with the pll? losing lock etc.

Keep the vids coming nice, very nice.

    Best regards-Roger.

  • @TheCopperknob The PLL was dead which is a common fault on these old radios, this one is about 30 years old.

Another problem with loss of frequencies is the VCO block which fails, generally if only the PLL has failed it will still RX/TX on one frequency, the PLL02A is long obsolete but i managed to acquire some originals so it keeps me out of trouble.

  • Have you had any radios with low power output NOT caused by bad transistors? Im really scratching my head over this one, RCI2950 and barely putting about 2 watts, its low on both SSB and AM. Gonna try and check for leaking capacitors next.

  • The only radio i had which was not transistors had a burned coil but these are easy to spot normally.

Did have a radio here once where the owner had changed the driver and final but the 2166 driver was fake so the output was very low.

Most of these old sidebanders are not really worth repairing unless it can be done cheaply..
