Hi all,

Had a short holiday on the Isle of Wight and spent ages watching the hovercraft. Here's a tip, don't stand behind a hovercraft at full chat or you'l get covered in sea salt, as I did!

These hovercrafts are for foot passangers only and can cross from Ryde to Portsmouth in 10 minuits. They are diesel powered and quite impressive I think you'l agree.

Hope you enjoy the video....

  • Great video! Our Coast Guard (Canadian) uses these particular make of hovercraft. We have 2 of them here in British Columbia with different configurations. (one is like this with the bridge forward, the other with the bridge aft and a landing craft style door on the bow able to take an ambulance or what have you) Those are definitely maneuvering fans or "jets" on either side of the bridge. Great video! i really enjoyed watching this! :)

  • Thanks very much! Very interesting craft to watch. Living far from the Isle or Wight I don't see these things much.

    Cheers!

  • This video was a very nice experience. Very nice quality, and no shaking. Interesting to watch the 2 maneuvering jets, I thought they were a little slow, but I guess that's all they need. Check out that water jet pack! It's a small boat that pumps high volume water, and you direct the jets and drag the boat around. Keep up the nice work!

  • Thank you.

I thought the "jets" were air intakes at first, angled to keep the spray out of the diesel engine, but I think your right, they probably are for manouvering.

    Thanks for watching.

  • i wonder how long the skirt lasts? grand vid BTW.

  • Thanks.

I imagine they last a fair while, they would have to be fairly heavey rubber?
