I remember my older "aged" jazz teacher telling me that I, and other drummers, who spend our youth playing R&B, Rock, Funk, etc. But once we got older, in our late 30s and 40s, we would start playing Jazz. Here, Steve Smith was known for his Rock drumming with Journey, now Steve is constantly playing Jazz... Quoting Philly Joe Jones, Max Roach, etc.
