Cameron Maybin against Clayton Kershaw

With Clayton getting called up this Sunday (see my blog entry at http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-aR.3pW...), I dug through my videos and pulled out this gem: an at-bat from #1 (according to Baseball America) Marlins prospect Cameron Maybin. This video is BEAUTIFUL, and it has a surprise ending--at least for one of the participants. Watch and see!

I've known Cam since he was a freshman outfielder at Roberson High School here in Asheville, NC. There was just something about his build that told me he was going to be something special. Tonight, he hit the longest HR of the season so far, 485 feet at Chase Field.

Great memories, eh? When Maybin was first traded to the Marlins from the Tigers, we Florida fans (and Southern League fans) were actually disappointed, because we love us some Miggy Cabrera! We still hold a little resentment towards him because of that, especially since things didn't even work out and he is not even a Marlin anymore. That is cool that you know him though. He might have hit a monster home run at Chase, but he is kind of dying there at Petco.... :)

I remember playing with Maybin back in AAU. . .son bitch could already hit the ball over 400 ft at 14 y.o. and was lightning on his feet. . .story here. . .was sick nasty, is sick nasty, and will be something to watch in the pros for sure
