duet by two vocally and musically gifted American singers This was a night which also included Sam Ramey. Selections from Showboat and a few selected arias Jerome Kern would have been proud this night. Top notch from conductor on down. All three probably in their vocal prime There were no second rate backseat singers this night,,Young aspiring singers should take note of the phrasing and how well they handle their ivoice.

I saw Jerry Hadley and Frederica von Stade sing together in Lawrence, Kansas at KU back in the early 1990's and they did this duet together. They were so good together. Thanks for placing this video online!

@ceb2633 Sadly this great talent in opera with an affinity for musical theatre took his own life three years ago. There hasn't been anyone like him since that can segway so seemlessly between the two genres.

Really, Miss von Stade is at present on her farewell tour around the world. She have announced his retirement this year, when she'll be 65 yo. However, I hope she'll go on singing, although occasionally .

Only recently discovered these great singers on a CD recording of Showboat conducted by John McGlinn (after seeing a documentary on the musical Showboat). Love their voices. Unfortunately it appears both McGlinn & Hadley are no longer with us and Von Stade has retired. Thank heavens we are still able to enjoy their recordings.

I miss him so much. It's too bad he committed suicide. There was no one like him. Incredible talent.

yes I was shocked to hear of his death [some 6 months after the fact] . To be honest you just don't hear of classical singers committing suicide [ and with such talent!]
