Justice Robert H Jackson conducted the cross examination of Hjalmar Schacht, the former Nazi Minister of Economics on May 2,1946. Schacht was later acquitted of all charges. For more information see www.roberthjackson.org.
@Couperetto Nonsense! Montagu Norman was an empty gas-bag. Schacht was not hanged because he quit government service in 1938. He neither conspired to wage aggressive war, nor did he commit war crimes. He saw the way Hitler was headed and probably knew he would lose. So he laid low. After the war he was a leading banker once again. As for Jews financing the Nazis--yeah! That's a good one.
Schacht was a very clever financial man, who had to make as many outside friends as possible in order to alleviate the harsh terms of Versailles. He was able to influence the British and French and even the Americans; they reduced the harsh terms of the German repayments.
Apparently Justice Jackson was not briefed extensively enough about Dr. Schacht's background and he was therefore at a disadvantage when facing Schacht one on one.
@dackelism,
Schacht worked at the Bank for International Settlements, the Reichsbank, and Chase Manhattan.
