part 2 video response to barstowmomma Mind of a Foster Parent.
Continuation of my response on the Foster Care system and some of the things that Foster Care Workers encounter. I was employed in that capacity from 1995 thru 1998 and whew! Thank God I made it through! LOL

  • Pinky you sound just lovely. It was most interesting listening to what you had to say about working with children in care. I am a disability activist myself and wondered about women who find themselves in the system who have learning or intellectual disabilities. Do they have a level of support to enable them to keep their children?

  • It's a matter of the laws in your state, but here in Michigan if the mother is not a danger to the health or safety of her child (such as in the case of some forms of Schizophrenia) there are some programs available to assist her in teaching her the skills required to properly care for her children. Most learning disabilities within themselves is not proper grounds to deny a woman the right to have or to raise her children. But right now money for such programs is being cut due to budget. Sad!

  • Thank you so much for your video response and it was such a wonderful time talking to you. We do have a lot in common and it's amazing that as people who work in the child care system we don't commit crimes against those parents that we see doing major damage in the lives of their children. It's CRAZY!!!

  • I thank God everyday for my ability to remain compassionate and not choke the life out of someone during that time, lol. I could have been in jail about 100 times by now! Ha! Then who would have raised MY children? I shudder at that thought.

  • Thank u for the first hand knowledge on such an important issue. U made a lot of good points; I wish I could give u 10 stars.

    Stay up my sista!

  • Aww, thank you! I'm just trying to tell it straight. I hope that more people can begin to focus on issues with our children and parenting. If so, nothing as drastic as protective services intervention would be as prevelant.
