Khaya Lethu Kindertehuis

Wil Groot ging in Oktober 2007 naar Zuid Afrika met als droom een kindertehuis te openen. Via 'Ons Plek' kwam hij terecht in de Transkei waar wel plannen waren en een paar vervallen gebouwtjes, maar geen geld om de boel te verbouwen. Via zijn stichting: 'Willen en Doen' kreeg hij de financiering rond en in Juni 2008 opende het kindertehuis haar deuren. De naam 'Khaya Lethu' betekent 'Ons Plek' in Xhosa.

Inmiddels biedt het een thuis aan zo'n twintig aids-wezen en is er een fantastische groentetuin bij het project aangelegd, waardoor de kinderen gezonde voeding krijgen en het project deels in eigen kosten kan voorzien.

De streek rondom het paatsje Coffeebay in de Transkei is prachtig, maar arm. Er is veel armoede en ondervoeding en het aantal hiv geinfecteerde is schrikbarend hoog. Via dit project wil Stichting Willen en Doen de streek een impuls geven. We willen dit doen door meer landbouw te stimuleren en door kleuterscholen te bouwen die door de gemeenschap gerund kunnen worden, zodat de kinderen een goede start in het onderwijs hebben.

Wil Groot is samen met de andere bestuursleden en vrienden in Nederland bezig met fondsenwerven. Daarnaast houdt hij een vinger aan de pols in Zuid Afrika om te zorgen dat het geld van onze donateurs op de juiste plaats terecht komt.

In October 2007 Wil Groot went to South Africa with a dream to open a childrenshome. Through 'Our Place' he ended up in the Transkei where there were plans and a few rundown buildings, but no money to restore them. With support from his Will-Do foundation he managed to get the finances and in June 2008 the home opened it's door. The name 'Khaya Lethu' means 'Our Place' in Xhosa.

The area around Coffeebay is beautiful but poor. There's a lot of malnutrition en the number of people infected with hiv is very high. Through this project the Will-Do foundation wants to improve the situation in the whole area. We want to do this by building preschool, run by the community so the kids have a good start in education and by stimulating agriculture.

Together with the other board members and friends Wil Groot is now raising funds in the Netherlands to keep the projects going. He checks up on the projects in South Africa regularly to make sure the money people trust us with end up there where it is most needed.
