This short slide shows features photos from a protest rally organized by the Council of Canadians in front of Taseko Mines Ltd's Annual General Meeting in Vancouver British Columbia Canada on Wednesday June 16th. The people had gathered to protest Taseko's plans to put an open pit copper and gold mine - the "Prosperity Mine" - in the heart lands of the Tsilhqot'in Nation - against the Tsilqot'in's chiefs' and people's wishes. The mine, if built, would require the draining of a lake - Fish Lake - in order to accomodate the massive amounts of toxic mine tailings this mine would produce. Several Tsilqot'in chiefs spoke at the rally.
The song with the slide show is a sad sweet tune from the state of Kentucky that reminds us that people all over the earth are putting up a fight against mining interests to protect their lands and waters.
