03.19.10 - Working House Fire, Washington Township, PA

Just before 0900 hours, Lehigh County comm center dispatched companies 23, 9, 6 and 24 to the area of Rt. 873 and Friedens Rd. for a house fire with rescue - a elderly man reported to be on the roof of the house. A fire police captain arrives and reports a working fire.

Crews find heavy fire on the first and second floors of the dwelling. 4 handlines are stretched and in-service. Ladder 23 sets up in the front of the fire building while ladder 24 goes to the roof on the Delta side. Crews quickly darkened down the bulk of the fire but had extensive overhaul ops due to heavy extension into the walls. It took firefighters about an hour to contain the fire.

Walnutport, Neffs and Lehigh Township assisted at the scene.

Im no know it all but come on guys. Back to basics!. If I joined this dept, 1 I would either be thrown out bc I went in and tried to find/fight the fire or 2 made chief. wow!

honestly tho i mean everyone complains about ppe facial hair gear all that stuff but if its your department then not a things a miss you only see the fault in other places. if you step back sometimes you will see that what you say is wrong is something you even do yourself

So now we have a pretty good idea of what NOT to do at a dwelling. It's pretty sad that in this day and age firefighters still can't wear the proper PPE for the job... not to mention the beards. And didn't the guys on the overhang think that since the first guy almost fell through that you wouldn't put 2 more people up there (let alone why the first one stayed up there)?
