Some images of my trial after 28 days.

  • Agrisonic, how did you make the biochar? I was curious if the biomass was in a container so that no ash formed or if there was some oxygen available during the charring process.

    Thanks for the video.

  • Hi greginmaine,

For this trial I just bought the rice husk char from the market as it was the cheapest way for me to do the trial (1,300rmb/ton). There is no problem adding a small amount of oxygen during the charring process as you can see from my gasifier clip. Lots of other good info on dub dub dub dot biochar dot org

  • Very interesting. A suggestion would be to lable the still images so that it easier to identify the "Biochar" plots. It would help people compare the difference more efficiently.

Thank you for posting the video!

  • Hey Spiney163,

Sorry about that, I'm no cameraman and that's for sure. I hope you can still make out that the darker plots (Biochar) are greener and the plants look bigger.

The next trail I do I'll lay it out a bit better and put bigger signs to make it easier to compare.

    Thanks again for the suggestion,

    Rob.

  • @shawandrew Well, you should have put a colon before the quote. At any rate, couldn't he have written that on the 28th day?

  • What was the soil pH before and after the biochar?

  • Spelling and grammar sometimes annoy me. At the end of your video you say "After 28 days, the 24 plots with biochar are showing more growth then the plots without." I will rewrite it to be more correct and put in caps the parts I changed:

After 28 days, the 24 plots with biochar SHOWED more growth THAN the plots without.

  • Hi, Agrisonic,

I just made a batch of charcoal out of weeds, It smells bad but at least they are doing something positive for the world. I think as long as the kernel of the weed is burnt, it won't come back to life. I cooked them at 700 degrees F for twenty five minutes. Next I will try dry tumbleweed.

  • it shows great innitiative and character to be willing to test plots that could have failed and cost you money. if it would have failed, who knows how long those plots would be fallow, or low producing.

    great job!
