Miss Marie Lloyd, Queen of the Music Hall

Jessie Wallace and Richard Armitage stars in this wonderful BBC drama based on the turbulent life and times of Marie Lloyd, known as the 'Queen of the Music Hall', who was famous at the turn of the 20th century not just for her performances on stage but also for her riotous behaviour off it. Lloyd's love life and outrageous conduct made her a target for the rising tabloid newspapers of the time. The film includes some of Lloyd's most famous songs, including 'My Old Man Said Follow the Van' and her theme song 'A Little of What You Fancy Does You Good'.

  • As a collecter ofMusic Hall stars and 78rpm records i wish they would have got this story correct. There are lots of errors in this program.

  • what is the song the showman is singing in the beginning??

  • Richaaarrrddd... :D

  • @SadieMcGrady1 I hope you find her as Fascinating as I did:) This is a Woman i would love to have met. She Stood up for Herself, and her Fellow Performers. She made sure on stage she gave the audience their money's worth:) My favorite thing, "Is Everybody Happy." and the wink.

I found out yesterday that I'm a distant relative of Marie Lloyd (Matilda Wood)

I now know where I get my love for performing :)

I can't wait to watch this to learn more about her, she sounds like an amazing woman!

  • I had no clue who she was until I watched this. I searched to find out more about her. There isn't as much as I thought there would be. I'm not going to Spoil this by telling everything. The one thing that I did wonder about was her Daughter. She performed under the name Marie Lloyd Jr. Born 1888 died 1967. That is all that I could find that wasn't in the Show.

The Best Thing about her was She was Real, and way ahead of her time. She was A True Star!
