I don't really think it needs any intellectual prowess to understand. Its just prop manipulation. Quite why you'd want to see toss juggling in a contact routine is beyond me aswell.
part of the reason i (and maybe wes too) like this piece is because he uses one flowing body movement to explore the nature of his props, starting with just 3 balls, and adds more and more items in an interesting way, without disrupting the the pattern of his body movements. I still don't really know what this piece is about, but that's part of what i like most about it.

He is fantastic! These coordinated movements are very difficult to do with the perfection he showed!

i know its a contact routine, but i still want to see some stuff throwing
i dont do contact, but i like the look of some of it. im just not inspired to do any of it. sorry. i hope this is not a problem for you. lol
