In This short video, I hope to provide an interesting and helpful introduction to the Super Audio CD format. The video explains what an SA-CD is, as well as what the advantages of SA-CD are over traditional compact disc. This is first installment of several videos which will act as a guide to this exciting audio format. See your audio dealer for a demonstration.

  • Okay so you've made a pretty good case for choosing SACD over CD but what about DVD-Audio why should we choose SACD over it?

  • @DraconianKindness I never said that SACD was necessarily superior to DVD-Audio. But I do say that I prefer it to traditional compact disc. The only you're going to make such a decision for yourself is to listen to both formats. The advantage with SA-CD is that there are far more many titles released on SACD and more on the way all the time.

  • That was so complicated!

  • The main thing is that you hear the format for yourself and decide if you like the sound of it.

  • @superaudiocdman The file format of standard audio cd is .wav what is the file format of super audio cd thanks in advance ...

  • Careful with that bit on the sampling rate. 44100 samples, directly according to the sampling theorem, is enough samples to reproduce all frequencies up to 22049 hz perfectly. Very few humans older than infants hear that high.

True, there is a filter in 44.1k PCM that kicks in at about 21000 to prevent audible aliasing, but this filter is also used at about 50k in DSD converters because of the ridiculous amount of supersonic noise inherent to a noise-shaped 1-bit format.

  • "Perfect sound forever" is a frequently repeated misquote. The original Sony print ad headline read "Sony creates seventh row, center: Forever."

  • may have been asked, but wouldn't blu-ray discs provide the highest quality of digital sound at this point?

  • @ROBCRX

It's a bit complicated to explain.

24bit is a reference to PCM style of storage, like CD uses.

The player has to be able to actually read the SACDs themselves. And the SACD is for a totally different style of sampling to PCM. Not just a better version of it. It's actually 1bit DSD. Direct Stream Digit. An uncompressed Bit Stream.

  • How do blu-ray discs compare to SA-CD?

  • My Clarion DRZ9255 car cd player is dual 24-bit with 96kHz sampling rate... what exactly does this mean ? Also will my cd player play SACD's ?
