Sword of the Stars 1 Tactical Battle

A battle between advanced Hivers with dreadnoughts and cruisers vs the cruiser fleet of the Tarka. This video is from the originally released version of the game with no expansions, and before any real patches. The AI was pretty bad in this initial verison.

The sequel to this game, Sword of the Stars 2: Lords of Winter is now out. It has a lot of potential but it seems it was just released too early and is in need of some serious attention. @zilfondel Yeah it's a great game. The devs are really committed to polishing up SotS2 and I can see while playing it that there's a gem of a game in there waiting to come out. I recommend checking in again in a month or two and see how its doing and pick it up if it has improved enough.

Is this game like total war? aka turn based in the map but the combat is all real time and not turn based?

@1anaken Yes, it follows that kind of formula, but it plays a lot differently than the total war games.

Have you played the game? I don't know if you noticed, this video is over 3 years old. The graphics of the game improved since then. Also, you're judging it based on a rather low quality youtube video. Hard to get a good idea of the graphical quality from that.

You have to terraform it to 0. With humans, it's recommended you find a system with a climate hazard of 100 or lower, that way it is terraformed quickly and a population builds up faster.

Also, there is tech to make terraforming or colonizing faster.
