A Camden County Historical Society presentation of the foods of the Civil War by Sandy Levins. Features a display of actual foods baked according to 1860s recipes.
Actually these breads were rare and only given to wounded soldiers by nurses. Mostly only soldiers in the Union ate hardtack and both sides ate salted pork and salted beef and hunted their own food. Most Confederates ate dried peas and beans. They rarley got lemonade and most drank coffee made from acorns.
