I cant get the apples to slice so well. What kind of knife are you using?

All sorts of things come to mind when re-thinking this recipe. How bout for those that like cheese with their apple pie. Grill them however you want but use a think slice and get those nice grill marks and after you turn it over the once put that slice of sharp chedder on the apple slice, delete the salt cus of the salt content in the cheese and it should be ready to eat when the chesse is melted somewhat...mmmm...mm. Sorry Mrs. YourProduceGuy but thick slices rule...lol, in this case anyway.

@soobob1 I would suggest using a cast iron skillet. You might have to use a light coat of oil or butter unless the pan is well seasoned. You would achieve the same results that way, but with some added fat from the oil or butter. If your pan is well seasoned you might get away with the fat. Heat the pan pretty warm and lay the apple slices down on it and see what happens. Should be good eating!

@loislaney23 Let me know how it works out for you. Try it different ways (sliced thick, thin, darker grill marks, no salt) and see how you like it best. Then let me know how it was!

Looks OK but I'd prefer a darker grill mark and done outside on the BBQ would be nice and even throw a few would chips in to get a smokey flavor. Of course thicker slices would be better to acheive the grill marks and be able to stay longer on the grill to get that smoke into them. Thanks for the idea Mrs. ProduceGuy...lol

@fabforceone I would agree with you there. There is a divergence of opinion on this process between Mrs. ProduceGuy and myself. I want thicker slices with those pronounced grill marks. She is a fan of the thinly sliced, lightly grilled method. In either case the purpose is to caramelize some of the apple sugars to develop that apple flavor. Done right, it is like an apple pie with no crust. Thanks for watching.
