Ringling elephant handlers with bullhooks are about to lead the elephants inside to "perform" at the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Judging by the two-finger salute given by the female handler to the camera, they weren't too happy that we were recording them.
While staying on the campus of George Mason University, Ringling keeps all the animals in a fenced off section of the Patriot Center Parking lot. Many of the animals, including endangered Asian elephants, endangered Bengal Tigers, and horses, were seen exhibiting stereotypic behavior, commonly seen in captive and traumatized animals, by repeatedly swaying back and forth, head bobbing and repeatedly weaving in circles inside their tiny cages.
This is a tragic example of the type of abuse that George Mason University endorses when they host Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey Circus every year at the Patriot Center. Shame on GMU.
Take action! Contact university officials immediately to demand that GMU and the Patriot Center stop profiting from animal abuse by hosting Ringling Bros & Barnum & Bailey CIrcus every year:
Alan Merten, president: amerten@gmu.edu
Peter Stearns, provost: pstearns@gmu.edu
Let them know that animal cruelty will never be welcome on the George Mason University campus!

Thank you for exposing Ringling Bros. circus. Please boycott all circuses that feature wild animals in their acts. These elephants are kept chained in small trailers and beaten with bullhooks as part of "training." Very cruel and sad.
