"Heera Group UK" was a very popular Bhangra music group that originated in the early 1980s. They scored several Punjabi hit songs through much of the decade. Their style of bhangra is synonymous with Bhangra music that we hear now. One of the biggest pioneers in changing Bhangra sound, Heera Group has produced many successful acts within the group. They started in the UK, coming onto the scene all the way back in 1981. Originally, the group was made up of Bhupinder Bhindi and Palvinder Dhami, only later to be joined by Kumar. They exploded onto the Punjabi music scene releasing hit after hit. Arguably Heera Group introduced Bhangra as we hear it today.

Channi Singh is the godfather of bhangra music in the Western World.Channi is the founder, lead singer, producer, director of Alaap. He came from Malerkotla, Punjab to the UK in 1975 and gradually started the popularity of Punjabi music among the Punjabi youth in the UK, forming the Alaap group in 1977 with other talented musicians. By using both Western and Punjabi folk instruments, the group produced a new and more modern style in Punjabi music, later known as UK Bhangra. In 1992, Alaap became the first Asian British bhangra band to perform in Pakistan.
