Thanks for posting the video. But you do know that it was all a joke, right? This is They Might Be Giants pretending to be a hard rock band called Demchuk. In real life the singer has short hair and spectacles, and he most definitely doesn't wear skull rings. =P I can't speak to his personal beliefs (or those of the show on which this appeared as I've never watched it) but I can say with 100% certainty that you're not supposed to take the song too seriously.

Cut The Strings is a hilarious joke.

I LOVE THIS!

Great song and a fun video, thanks for uploading it. But they really should've made Flans put on a black T-shirt - his orange plaid kind of ruins the image. He's not very 'metal' from the neck down... =P

YEAH!!!

Yeah, my definition of "scumbag" disincludes people who even know of string theory.

Thanks for posting this. It is a funny little nugget of John and John.

I'm 90% sure they were joking in this video, in my opinion I think it's about how the people that doubt the string theory don't really know what they're talking about. Awesome song anyways. :D
So was this from 'Brave New World' or made by the poster for youtube? Regardless, I like the whole intro with the magnifying glass. I think it's supposed to be a reference to 'She's an Angel" ('...somewhere they're meeting on pinhead..) that also fits the quantum mechanics motif (whole world on said pinhead). BTW I'm making a video to 'Wearing a Raincoat' and it's gonna be the awesome.

@akilbride1 It appeared in the Brave New World exactly as you see it. It would be extremely difficult for me to put it together. Thanks for your explanations, and good luck with your editing.

If you don't know this already, they know they're wrong. They're probably making fun of hard rock's rebellious spirit or the fact that string theory is so controversial
hoveringsombrero818 2 years ago
The latter is certainly wrong because this song was made for Brian Greene's TV program at the time when there didn't exist a glimpse about the controversy of string theory.
Even today, only complete scumbags find string theory controversial.

Scumbags? Really? Yeah okay. But it is, and there are many physicists who are opposed to it. You can go ahead and call them names on youtube if you want, but they are there.

Once again, there are people who are opposed to key physical theories such as string theory. But they're not physicists, as you incorrectly write. They're scumbags.
This word is not a "name" but a very rigorous conclusion of my multi-year encounters with these dumb and obnoxious "critics", and if you kindly allow me, I won't be changing a single letter about it and will be banning users who will try to write similar stuff here as you did.
