A few minutes of gameplay from the DOS version of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord. This game came out originally in 1981, but the basic gameplay has remained unchanged and found its way into many games right up to the present day (Etrian Odyssey is essentially Wizardry with a graphics upgrade).
Still, there's something particularly pleasing about the simple visuals on display here. A few notes on what's going on; This is a low-level party (mostly 3s). We start in the castle and go into the maze. The priest casts a light spell (MILWA) to give a better range of vision. You had to type out the names of the spells you wanted to cast, and if you wanted to try disarming a trap you had to type out the exact type of the trap too.
Levels are gained by resting at the inn when you have enough EXP. you can get old and die in this game, so it's best not to spend too much time recuperating!

@Itachisann EO is heavily inspired by Wizardry, but I agree that it's not "Wizardry with a graphics update".
Dark Spire is essentially like Wizardry, though.

Great video, most W1-3 uploads I've seen on YouTube are from the NES version.
I'm hoping that the Wizardry 1 SNES Let's Play videos I'm currently recording will give me the courage and patience needed to really get into the classic Apple/DOS versions and/or the great faithful FM Towns remake of Wizardry V...

Man this looks a hell of a lot of fun. I own, and play Etrian odyssey 2, or did until I got Luminous Arc 2, so I can see the resemblance between the two...except Wizardry looks more to be of an interior game, while EO2 felt like an outdoors game.

I've seen footage of the NES version of the game, but never the DOS version of the game. Damn that mandatory scenario disk setup of that game.
