Sweet Marie

She walked into the smoke filled room
Like a ballerina on a stage
Her body is tight and light as a feather
Helping the band, to give them soul
The lady sang in Spanish Harlem
Every Johnny knew her name
The Latin blood rushing inside her
Danced the rhythm and soul of Santa Fe
You can call her Maria or Marie
And if you feel lucky tonight
You can see her in the sailor moon
When the tides are low
Think of her large Spanish eyes
And sweet Marie will come
To sing and sing, and dance and dance
For you
She carried the band down the canyon
Like a mule with a heavy load
Her songs read a story 'bout her forgotten dreams
Left on the street untold
Big eyes from those pretty girls
Are stuck on sweet Marie
From the outside of the cafe window you can see
The contessa for free
She walked into the ballroom
Like a seniorita Joan of Arc
Her body is thigh, lean and mean
Lighting the smoking machine with a single spark
Before the night was over
The seniorita made the dead man dance
And all the boys were on their knees
Begging sweet Marie for a second chance
