  • Hi thanks for sharing. Quick question...after you add the lye to the oils and star stirring do you need to put it back on the heat or do you do all the mixing on the counter top? Thanks!

  • @hollyhferris No, do not put them back to heat. While melting the oils separately, mix the lye and water. After everything has cooled down (anywhere from 15 min to an hour), mix everything together and stick blend. When it reaches a trace, cover and place in oven, checking about every 15 minutes. Stir it a few times and you can clean your spoon out (you don't want lye to go back in) after the initial stir.

  • What is the recipe for this soap? I would like to make it.

    thanks

  • @tbel1ma Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I do not share recipes, there are so many we have, however, you can find many online just by searching. Remember, almost all recipes can be done hot process. I would start with a basic recipe.

The basic oils you can use are:

I do use Olive (not EVOO, or pomace, regular is fine), Canola, Palm, & Coconut.

Let me know how it works.

  • Hi there, so what kind of olive oil shall i use?

Will regular kitchen extra virgin olive do?

  • @szyszym My suggestion is pure olive oil. Not pomace, and not extra virgin. Medium blend is what I call it. Pomace can color the soap and take over the scent. Sometimes it also leaves it tacky.

Extra virgin would take forever to trace, but it would make a great soap. For us it's not necessary, the regular grade pure olive oil works best.

  • I've been using the Pomace with a can of Crisco veg. shortening and that makes a nice hard soap with a lot of glycerin...but I've never seen this trick of putting it in the oven! Thanks :)
