Gussow goes head-to-head with James Brown's best-known funk/blues. Zow! You'll need a G harp for this one.

  • when you say blue third do you mean minor third?

  • Great question. Yes and no. The minor third--E-flat on the piano when you're playing a piano blues in C--is a good start, but if you watch blues (or rock) guitar players play the note, they always smear the minor third up a few cents, so the pitch is more like the quarter tone between minor third and major third. There's also a blue third that is slightly BELOW the minor third; Dickie Betts and Duane Allman use that note on LIVE AT THE FILLMORE.....

  • is the flat 5th always the third note bent down

  • I'm not sure what you're asking.

  • I'm sorry I meant to say is the flat 5th always the third draw hole bent

  • It's the flat 5th in third position if you bend it hard--the deepest bend possible.

  • wow, that's way too much theory for a harmonica! haha

  • i play on c harp.can that be played on c harp too?

  • great player, great teacher...cool guy!

  • You've picked on my favorite of all time sir besides the coveted Howlin' Wolf. I've got a challenge for you. "Feel So Bad (Live)" by Ray Charles which themed with gospel and funk and such. It is from the Live in Japan album and it is purely soul music. I tried your other lessons for his songs and they worked but then I got to this one and my A and E harps didn't work. Do this for fun if you'd like.

  • harptabs.com is a good site that have many tabs guys

  • Great lesson, what makes it possible for me to be able to play this

is because I bought an expensive Hohner Crossover harp in G.

Such a lovely instrument to play on. I struggle to bend properly on a new

Marine Band in Bb, but this Crossover harp brand is superbly made and

    tonally, sounds great and responsive.

    Woody (UK)

  • Can't believe how fun this song is to play. I almost passed on this lesson because I figured that it would be beyond the harmonica but Adam nails it. Please don't stop posting. YOU are OUR Nat Riddles! Thanks so much ADAM

  • great lesson, not sure i believe you about the NATURAL high tho, your looking like you feel good, Tony Little, just kidding
