An interview with "Dave" who currently lives in a makeshift lean-to under I-10 at Canal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was just about to start filling out his application for food stamps as I walked by his makeshift shelter. The area under the overpass, where at least 100 people currently sleep each night, is expected to experience an influx of additional homeless people when others living in the tent village in front of New Orleans City Hall are driven out.

  • That homeless guy is far more articulate than plenty of employed people. Intelligence is more of a curse than a friend I think, unless you have the right family or connections in life.

  • It will get worse before humanity awakens. A good place to start is turning of the TV.

  • That first part where he's talking about that they get no respect. Well, you gotta give it to get it. I laugh when people like this think they "Deserve" respect, but have done NOTHING to get it.

Had he been working 3-8 hours a day even at min wage, I'd be damn respectful. But is he? Don't look like it.

  • for a homeless guy, he has pretty nice teeth, i guess he has enough cans around the area to pay for his tooth brush =)

  • Did anyone ever follow up on him?

  • @warrenbattistejazz - shut up stupid

  • Homeless shelters aren't so good either. You see people putting things up like old TVs or couches on the street. Give them to the homeless. Rather than putting your stuff up for free on craigslist, give it to the homeless.

Access to jobs listings whether it be online or newspapers could also help. Take a financing class before shit gets serious (which should be mandatory in schools for gods sake)

  • I live in New Orleans and let me tell you there are many programs to help these people. Most of these under the bridge people are dope heads and would not work in a pie factory.

  • fix the audio dude

  • its not that easy jackass. why dont you get a job and shut the fuck up.

  • youre mean man...

  • its not true for all dude...and i doubt theres that much government apartments..
