I mean, If you bought the fish from Meijer then decided to return it... they would just throw the fish in the garbage... :( Literally take the fish out of the bag and put it directly into the trash... I know this because I use to work there, but when someone brought a fish back when I was on clock... I would...SECRETLY put the little guy back into the tank ;)
