Cheile Turzii or Turda Gorges are situated in the Southwestern Carpathians, in the northern Trascau Mountains, being part of the Apuseni Mountains, in Romania's Transylvania. The diversity of high and steep walls, sharp ridges, rock towers and caves makes it one of the most beautiful and impressive gorges in Romania. Turda gorges are one of the main rock climbing sites in Romania. Turnul Ascutit or (The Sharp Tower) is the emblem of Turda Gorges. Turda nature reserve was established in 1938. This wonder of nature is of botanical, zoological and geological significance. There are over 100 km of marked trails, making Turda gorges area a special attraction for hikers.
