Entry Title: "Rapelling Down Waterfalls and Jumping Off Bridges"

"Bye Bye Quito...hello Baños!!! It is so nice to get out of Quito after our stolen passport ordeal. We booked our 8 day cruise around the islands of Galapagos for a later date, then took the first bus out of Quito to a small town surrounded by mineral springs and waterfalls. This town also has a spa on every corner (my kinda town). It´s name, Baños (Baths). How appropriate. Baños is known as one of Ecuador's most enticing and popular tourist destinations....And of course our timing was impeccable as usual. Just in time for All Saints Day and the Day of the Dead. As a result it was a bit of a challenge to find space in a hostel or hotel. Everyone was at this town for a holiday. We lucked out on a great price (prices are inflated during this weekend) because the housekeeper in the hotel we were looking at forgot about the increase in price and charged us 8 usd. It should have been 16. The owner wasn´t happy when she later found out, but we paid ahead of time and stuck to our guns to get that price....SUCCESS. Go team!
Mike and I took our 'walk around town' ritual and photographed the main sites. Churches and a strange group of shops that do homemade taffy. Baños is also famous for their taffy. The men that work at the taffy houses stretch out the taffy, twirl it, bend it, and whip it onto a hook on the wall. My guess is to soften it up...not really sure.
Our Adrenaline Rush X 2 or 3 (Mike)
The two of us decided to book something pretty thrilling in Baños after sitting around in Quito. When Mike and I say thrilling....we mean it. Instead on one activity we booked 2 or 3. First we booked a go-cart to rent and buggied around the winding roads between cascades and waterfalls and through dark mountain tunnels (we almost went the wrong way through a one way tunnel). The tunnels were pretty insane when you don´t see the light at the end of it as a semi truck is behind your tiny little go-cart waiting to pass. This CAN´'T be legal in the States. No photos of this, mostly video. That night we relaxed in the Hot Springs next to a waterfall. Next morning, Canyoning...that is strapping yourself to a harness and rope and trusting such equipment as you lean backwards off a cliff as a waterfall is streaming down 100ft....yep 100ft is where we will be repelling down IN A WATERFALL...along with that we also slid down a rock face.
Can you imagine waking up one morning and turning to each other to say 'Hey honey, let's jump off a waterfall backwards today''. I can't think of a better way to start off your morning .... better than coffee.
Third adrenaline rush...that same day Mike decides to finish his rush with a bungee swing jump off a bridge!! I wish we could´ve found a Superman costume for the occasion. It was Halloween after all. But no luck on that. He made it. That´s all that matters. So with so much hormone and neurotransmitter actions happening in our endocrine and nervous systems (Bio geek here)...we are ready to take a nap a return to homeostasis. Ciao!!"
