  • Looks interesting. Do you know if there's any chance of this being made available eventually on DVD in the U.S.?

  • @D0RiMi Just wondering who will be KIng of France ? And why would the French people give up the Rebuplic.

  • long love the King! Restore monarchy in France!

  • @Perversus666 Whether you like it or not, the facts of the matter are this: the French Monarchy was bankrupt for at least twenty-five years before the reign of Louis XVI, due to the extravagance, corruption, and decadence of Louis XIV and the costly, worthless wars of Louis XV. The rich WERE taxed, although not as much as the poor, and what actually started the revolution was a plan by Louis XVI to tax the rich MORE than the poor to ease the burdens on the working class.

  • Nobility and clergy didn't pay any taxes under the ancient regime. They lived from the taxation of poor people and the exploitation of their land.

The bankrupt began under Louis XV, but Louis XVI did'nt try anything to stop it. He let his wife and the court spend thousands in futile wealthy clothes, hunts, gambling... while the people was starving.

You couldn't count all the scandals (for exemple the infamous Necklace Affair) at the time. Nowadays wild capitalism is little compared to this.

  • @mc0558 France was going bankrup before Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette even came to power. And The Revolution started when Louis XVI was attempting to tax the rich to lessen the burden on the poor. So what about that? A Revolution occurs just as they attempt to tax the rich? The poor were mislead by the rich.

  • @opsenda People who put their trust in Kings are bound to be disillusioned; Kings who put their trust in the People are headed for the axe!

  • When Edmund Burke went on about the brutality of the French Revolution to Their Most Christian Majesties, The King and Queen of France and Navarre, Tom Paine replied, "Burke mournes the plumes and forgets the dying bird." Louis was a neglectful King and Marie Antoinette was a silly lady; under them, the French state was bankrupt and the total weight of taxation was on the backs of the poor. What about that? What about the ordinary people of France?

  • vive le Roi!

  • I never saw it!!! how can I get a copy of it from somewhere ?
