Adam Hurt is an extraordinarily talented banjoist (and fiddler), and a wonderful teacher as well. He has been a faculty member at the Suwannee Banjo Camp that I direct with ken Perlman here in Florida for the past two years, and we feel lucky to have him. This clip is from the faculty concert March 20th 2010 with Adam playing his Enoch Dobson 5-string and me playing the Gold Tone OT-6 6-string banjo (5 long strings and a short thumb string). The tune is "Molly Put the Kettle On" (I learned it as "Polly" form Steve Slottow). It is one of the many great tunes on Adam's Perspective CD. The Suwannee Banjo Camp takes place the third weekend in March at O'Leno State Park in High Springs Florida and features many of the best old-time and bluegrass players and instructors. Check www.suwanneebanjocamp.com for more about the camp,www.adamhurt.com for more of Adam, and www.banjourneys.com to hear and and learn about Chuck Levy and his new CD, Banjourneys (Named one of the best recordings of 2009 by Banjo Newsletter).
The 6th string is devine. It opens things up that are just not possible without it. I hope you try one.
