Zack Ferris has recently released a video series entitled "Learn to Dance on the Keys" produced/edited by Jack Morris which uses a step by step regiment focusing on a methodized way of improvising. In order to get into a "musical zone," one has to be at a certain level. This video was designed to work with any rhythm loop and is a whole new way of thinking and practicing. The student learns the twelve keys to develop a palette from which to choose. They then start to develop a voice, in much the same way a baby starts to put words together to form sentences. This series was designed to be a step-by-step process to achieve fluency on the piano, much like fluency in speaking a language. The first video is an introduction to how the series works. The second video "Improvisation" focuses on developing five note licks in the key of C minor; we use the technique Play/ Rest/ Play again which is a very powerful method of building your vocabulary much like constructing sentences. This practice can then be transposed to any of the 12 minor keys. Enjoy!!!
