扞著風琴，提著吉他，雙人牽作伙，為
著生活流浪到淡水，想起故鄉心愛的
人，感情用這厚，才知影癡情是第一憨的人。
燒酒落喉心情輕鬆，鬱卒放棄捨，往事
將伊當作一場夢。
想起故鄉心愛的人，將伊放昧記，流浪
到他鄉，重新過日子。
阮不是喜愛虛華，阮只是環境來拖磨。
人客若叫阮，風雨嘛著行，為伊唱出留戀的情歌。
人生浮沈，起起落落，毋免來煩惱。
有時月圓，有時也昧平。
趁著今晚，歡歡喜喜，鬥陣來作伙。
你來跳舞，我來唸歌詩。
有緣、無緣，大家來作伙，
燒酒喝一杯，乎乾啦!乎乾啦!

Synopsis:
A street musician, leaving his loved one behind, goes to the port city of Danshui.
Whenever called upon, he grabs his guitar and sings to ease your mind, soothe your soul, and help you forget all sorrows.

Literal translation:
Destined, or not, let's all accompany each other.
Raise your wine, Ho Da La, Ho Da La.*
Carrying our organ and guitar, hand in hand following each other.
To earn our bread, we drifted to Danshui (northern port of Taiwan).
Missing my love back home... only while deep in love, one comes to understand that blind passion is a man's most foolish vice.
Wine passes through my throat, spirits lighten, thinking of letting it all go.
Let the past fade like a dream. Let my love back home fade like a memory.
Roam far away... a foreign land... to start a new life.
I am not fond of pride; this is the situation of my fate.
If the customer requests in the wind and rain, it is still performed.
For her I sang out this reluctant love song.
The ups and downs of life, rise and fall, please do not come to bother.
The moon is sometimes round, and is sometimes imperfect.
Take advantage of tonight's joyfulness, let's share our companionship.
You come and dance, I, recite and sing.

* The key refrain in the song "Ho Da La!" means, "Bottoms up!"
