This video shows a close-up view of a Jupiter-like planet being disrupted by a star with 1,000 times Jupiter's mass (which is slightly less than that of the Sun). The video shows a slice through the orbital plane, with the color scheme corresponding to the Logarithm of density. The planet is on a highly eccentric orbit (e = 0.9), and makes several close approaches to the star. As the planet is perturbed by the star, it begins to lose mass on each close approach.
