Michael Shires, associate professor of public policy, provides an overview of California's unprecedented $42 billion budget deficit and cash crisis and then turn to the state's options for both immediate and long-term responses. This presentation examines the political and economic implications of the budget crisis in conjunction with the national economic disaster and provides insight into both what is likely to happen and what should happen to provide long-term relief.

  • Jerry Brown and the state legislature should gang up and drastically cut state government services in the Republican voting areas of te state. The Republicans want smaller government and smaller state government spending. As a former Californian and a liberal Democrat New Yorker, I believe the Republicans should get what they want. Right between the eyes.

  • The problem with the economy in California would.'t have anything to do the the illegal people from Mexico draining the funds that the tax payers support would it? Tell me if I'm wrong...

  • Interesting presentation - I love the weather here but really how long can we afford to live in California?
