It's a joke, see? We're on a desert planet. There's practically no water.

Also, one of the few things I wanted to talk about at the end of the video is the spice melange. For those of you unfamiliar with the setting, melange is a geriatric, potentially psychotropic drug. Consumption of melange will extend your natural life for hundreds of years, improve your vitality, and heighten your senses. Depending upon the consumer, concentrated doses may result in prescient visions. The Spacing Guild Navigators, for instance, use their spice-induced abilities to provide safe and accurate interstellar travel. Bene Gesserits who wish to become Reverend Mothers first must undergo "the Reverend Mother ordeal," a highly secretive and dangerous process which uses a spice-derived poison to force the body into a crisis. The Fremen weave melange into all aspects of their life: Spice-paper, spice-plastics, spice-chemical explosives, spice-cloth, spice-fiber... you get the point. Due to its amazing versatility, outstandingly beneficial properties, and extreme scarcity, melange is the most desired product in the known universe.

However, melange has its drawbacks. The drug is highly addictive, and long-time consumers will notice the sclera, cornea, and iris of their eyes melding into a uniform dark blue color. For the Navigators, melange is a mutagen; their bodies become exceptionally deformed as they writhe within tanks filled with spice gas. Finally, those who develop a spice addiction can never escape it; spice withdrawal is lethal. Yet another reason for every noble House to desire control over the spice, yes?

Anyway, hope that background information helped. If it makes you feel better, I forgot everything else I wanted to say, so it's obviously not important. A rarity when I actually manage to shut the fuck up at the end of a video, though. Maybe I AM getting old.

Finally, let me know if you have a problem with the volume levels. I adjusted the sound effects and music DOWN after this video - to appease myself - but I still think I'm easy-to-hear here. If enough of you have a problem, I'll know I made the right decision; if not... well, I still made myself happy.

  • 2:50 That's the exact sound of one of the elevators from Blade Runner, another Westwood game.

Interesting that I still recognise it after all these years

  • @TheDorksman Indeed. I still recognize stock sounds that were used in Daggerfall.

  • You're not feeling well? Well, I hope it's nothing serious. Here's to hoping you feel better soon. =)

More on-topic with the video: can the worms pop up anywhere or are they limited to certain terrain? On which terrain are you allowed to build? Are you concerned that whatever ailment you need painkillers for will cause the Baron to believe you are no longer useful?

  • @Notthross Sandworms are, fittingly enough, limited to sand. In Dune's case, that's a considerable portion of the map. Consequently, you're only allowed to construct your base on the elevated rock formations.

Concerning my "ailment," the Baron would want to have servants whose weaknesses he knew and could exploit if necessary.

  • So, Grim. Did you ever play Red Alert 2. That is one of my favorite computer games of all time. And I wish I could grow some eyebrows like that guy.

  • @MrSuednym Nope. I think the only C&C games I ever played were the first one, Red Alert, and Generals. Unfortunately, I own Generals. It was a gift. It has been collecting dust for a long time.

  • @sreyn01 I've read the original six-book series by Frank Herbert, the two ending books which comprised "Dune 7" by his son and Kevin J. Anderson, and several supplemental books - such as those covering the Butlerian Jihad. In short, yes.

  • Wasn't the guy playing the Baron a regular on the old Whose Line is it Anyway?

  • I love the cutscenes from these guys, how its a first-person view and it actually feels like your being scrutinized or sneered at sometimes. This looks like a good game... can I just play it or will I be as confused as a puppy?

  • Oh my god . When i was young i was playing this game for hours . Grimith thank you for this let's play . (I never beat the game :( )

  • @12:18-12:22 Raging Ginger FTW :P

  • A 720p Grimsy video *wow* o.o

  • @bami2 What do you mean? o.o?

  • I think I mention this in my LP but I really liked the minigun-toting power armor troopers in Dune 2. To this day, I'm still disappointed that they didn't make in game reappearances. I remember spazzing upon seeing those soldiers with miniguns waiting in salute in the opening cutscene, the exact same way when I saw a trooper in power armor in the end cutscene of Dune 2k! Am I the only one who miss those heavy troopers?

  • **The sound levels are**

  • The sound quality is decent, but i think you made the right decision in lowering ingame volume a bit in favor of a bit louder mic.
