This video shows a progression of ray-traced shaders executing on a cluster of IBM QS20 Cell blades. The model comprises over 300,000 triangles and renders at over 60 frames per second, depending on the shader, at 1080p resolution using 14 Cell processors. Because of the scalable nature of the ray-tracer it can also render interactive frames on a single Linux Playstation3 using only 6 SPEs.

  • I just dont understand how it only runs on like 256mb of ram O_o

  • So it's not unrealistic to see this kind of raytracing in playstation 4?

  • @1schwererziehbar1 Ray tracing has been demonstrated on PC hardware years ago.

  • @GT5Enthusiast there are no games that utilize raytracing. GT5 is not an exception.

  • GT5 actually doesn't use ray-tracing. One Ps3 can't handle ray-tracing in full images at anything near a playable framerate.

  • @1schwererziehbar1 What? The PC has had Ray tracing way longer. IE Cryengine, cinema 3D, blender, maya, ect.

  • @UNCHARTED9444 YES GT5 USES ALOT OF THIS.

  • @GT5Enthusiast GT5 does not use real-time ray-tracing.

  • @GT5Enthusiast This is not what Gran Turismo 5 uses, it uses raster graphics like every other PS3 game. Besides, what you're seeing in this video is done by a server cluster (14 Cell processors with 112 SPEs) and can't be done by a PS3 console (one Cell processor with 6 usable SPEs).

  • @GT5Enthusiast Gran Turismo 5 uses regular rasterized graphics, not ray tracing.
