Hi, they are two different dogs, and the video is put together from several training sessions. Besides, they always run up to the piano whenever the door to the room is open. Intelligent beings need challenging things to do - boredom can be torture, challenges can be fun!

I do have to say that I agree with LightIsBeautyPhoto about not having a stationary camera. I think it is a little sketchy that non of this video actually shows the eye movements of the girl. It could be that the dogs are just following her eyes. Dogs are careful to watch our face expression and have even been known to be trained just by watching eye movements and knowing which way we are looking. It could have nothing to do with them actually knowing the notes.

Dogs‘ hearing abilities are a lot better than their eyes. If they could really discern the tiny distances between the keys by watching eye movements, that’d be even more impressive than going by ear. Besides, dogs’ abilities to correctly identify noises we don’t even notice is well known in many contexts, e.g. recognizing their family’s car engines among others of the same make.

Hi, muscle memory is not really surprising for dogs. They are far-sighted and don’t see the dark keys very well. They often hesitate, paw above key, making small movements to the sides. Sometimes they even reposition to one end of the keyboard and start searching the right key from there. And they often remember pairs of neighboring keys that are pressed in quick succession – even when not called for in a new tune.

OK @ 14:16 the dog makes a mistake and immediately recognizes it and changes his choice. This is amazing (nature). I'm jealous be cause I have pretty good relative pitch but not perfect pitch; when given one pitch I have know problem recognizing any other pitch and sometimes I can remember the pitches of the open strings of my string bass without a given reference. I've been told that perfect pitch can be learned but I haven't been able to remember all of the pitches...Doggonit!!!
