Cabell "Cab" Calloway III (December 25, 1907 -- November 18, 1994) was an American jazz singer and bandleader.

Calloway was a master of energetic scat singing and led one of the United States' most popular African American big bands from the start of the 1930s through the late 1940s. Calloway's band featured performers including trumpeters Dizzy Gillespie and Adolphus "Doc" Cheatham, saxophonists Ben Webster and Leon "Chu" Berry, New Orleans guitar ace Danny Barker, and bassist Milt Hinton. Calloway continued to perform until his death in 1994 at the age of 86.

I loved Cab and saw him in person too! I even shook hands with him. Singing the hi de hos in Minnie the Moocher too just like in your video here! He had a swing orchestra then, What a super star Cab was! The original hepcat will forever live on! God bless him.

My Goodness! I saw this show at Disneyland! I was then dating my now husband and we sat down in Carnation Plaza and saw this wonderful man perform live! He was so nice. In between sets we got to talking with him and he asked us to join him and sit and he got us a coffee! So much energy! RIP, Cab-man

yes he was! he did a concert in my hometown in the early 1960's for the lions club..i have an autographed photo and the program from that event.. i found them thrown away a few years ago during the annual local spring cleanup days where people throw out things from their garages and attics and cellars! what a find! history saved! thanks for posting this!
