  • This is probably one of my favorite pieces from the soundtrack. It's so melancholy but beautiful. I feel that when I close my eyes and listen to it, I've stepped back into that era in our nation's history.

    Thank you for uploading this.

  • Amazing how common people, and that includes common soldiers 160 years ago could pick up a musical instrument and play a tune--often without sheet music-- as if it were second nature to loading and shooting a rifle or hitching a team to a wagon. Contemporary generations can't seem to get past video games and DVD players for entertainment. Amazing too how eloquently even uneducated people wrote in those days without Microsoft Word to help them, or Hall Mark to do it all for them.

  • @KindessisEternal This song is French Canadian

  • @Nanjing03 This is an interesting thought indeed. But we all have golden ages we can look back upon, as did they.

  • @Nanjing03 lol yeah. people had to actually use their brains back then

  • I love this tune but it is modern not classical it was wrighten in 1982. Ken Burns was so moved by it he put it in his documentary anyway.

  • one of the most beautiful music ever!

  • This composition is so beautiful! God!

  • @SuperIcecreamluver I was actually a violinist while in orchestra. It just sounded like a viola to me. I guess I've been out longer than I thought.

  • @soberchimera61 No, it's played with a violin. I've played it before. You could probably play it with your viola, though. Beautiful piece by the way.

  • Is this played with a viola? I've been out of orchestra for awhile.

  • @Nanjing03 The art is far from dead, merely hindered by the times. In this age of texting and laziness on the part of many concerning such an easy task as communicating grammar and education have been put on the back burner . Parents of the first world, make it a point to educate your children at least from "i c u" to "I see you". Im 23, former U.S. Army and able to sit down at a piano and enjoy myself for a great deal longer than at a computer.
