This is my first attempt at recording the moon with a slightly modified webcam and a 90mm maksotuv-casegrain telescope. At the 1:00 mark what appears to be a rectangular object appears in one of the craters. I never noticed it until after posting and someone brought it to my attention.
Equipment was as follows
TELESCOPE : Orion StarMax 90mm
cassegrain-maksutov telescope
CAMERA : cheap and old intel web cam with focus lens removed and 35MM film canister with bottom cut out and glued or taped to front of camera so it will slide in the telescope eyepiece mounting hole.
FOCUS: focus was done with the telescope focus knob.
BARLOW LENS : None 0 zip
GUIDE: Manual or none at all.
SOFTWARE : Whatever works.

  • How did you managed different zooms with the webcamera, without losing sharpness ??

  • @ThePROMITHEAS1

There were no zooms on the video.

  • Ït's kinda funny how you see the shadow of the moonlander in the middle of the pic to the right...

    LIAR!..

Its kinda funny how certain people can get on here and make comments about somthing they know absolutely nothing about and try to convince everyone else otherwise.

  • Very good video. I've just done my first moon vid with a Celestron 6se and NexImage camera. It looked pretty similar to this once I realised that you have to re-focus the telescope after taking the eyepiece off. It took me ages to suss that one out, I wondered why it all looked fuzzy at first. Getting the hang of it now.

  • The square isn't really a square, I think it's an optical illusion, the upper part is a shadow, the bottom right we do not really see and only the bottom left seems to look like a corner of the square but if you cover the square with your finger you can clearly see that it is round-ish and actually the right side rim of a round crater, nice vid btw

  • Hello!could you please tell me how is it so clear?i'm using HD web camera(no lens) no barlow with an etx 125 and i can not get picture as clear as yours.its all blury and shaky.is there secret i dont know about?:(

  • sunrise the best song to ever put on when ur looking at a planet

  • @archannjus88 Cassegrain telescope

  • @archannjus88 Catadioptric - neither :)

  • @jim59913 Strange, at 1:00 the surface of the moon shows a bit closer somehow.

  • @QuickProfits

Come to think of it, that is correct. Ya its been 34 years since I was last in school I probably need a refresher on more than just that one thing!
