Son engagement sur le terrain de la lutte contestataire trouve dans cette suite composée avec le poète chanteur Oscar Brown Jr. son expression esthétique la plus achevée. L'épouse du batteur, Abbey Lincoln, célèbre quant à elle la proclamation d'émancipation avec une ferveur bouleversante.
